Which layout suits a park or a campground?
Match the building to how people use the site:
- A spray pad or playground needs washrooms and somewhere to change. The 42' × 18' building has men's and women's washrooms, a canteen and a change room.
- A campground needs showers. The shower units run from a single washroom and shower at 14' × 14' to four at 32' × 14'.
- A busy day-use area or ball diamond needs stalls. The 28' × 18' unit has six, and the 38' × 12' unit splits into a men's side with two stalls and three urinals and a women's side with four.
- A concession stand can carry its own washrooms: the 42' × 18' concession layout is barrier-free with a change room.

What makes a washroom barrier-free?
Layout first: every published Herauf washroom and shower plan is drawn barrier-free. Fittings second: the published spec sheet lists an accessible vanity, mirror, towel bars and toilet paper holders, with grab bars as an option. The approach last: the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways washroom was delivered complete with an accessible ramp and set on a prepared pad. Your building official confirms what the provincial code requires for your site, so share the plan with them early.
Sewer connection or self-contained?
Where municipal water and sewer reach the pad, the building ties in. Where they do not, as at many campgrounds and rural parks, it can be specified with a self-contained water and sewer system of 400, 600 or 800 gallons. Decide before the quote, because it changes both the building and the site work.
Is it built for a prairie winter?
The published standard is the same as every Herauf commercial building: R-32 floor, R-24 wall and R-60 roof insulation with 2×6 exterior walls, a heat recovery ventilator, electric heaters with thermostats and a water heater sized to the use, built for climate zones 6 to 8. The building can also be set in winter. The Town of Pilot Butte's accessible washroom and change building went onto its spray park site in February 2024.
When should it be ordered?
Work back from opening day. Most Herauf builds take about 16 weeks to manufacture and deliver, with the pad and services prepared at the same time, and installation takes days. At Pilot Butte work began in September 2023, the building was placed in February 2024, and it was in full use by summer 2024. For a spring or summer opening, that puts the order in the fall, so the money needs to be in the budget before then.
Who has bought one?
The Town of Pilot Butte, whose Chief Administrative Officer has recommended Herauf to other municipalities in a signed letter; the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways; and Twin Valley Co-op in Manitoba, for its cardlock site.
